History of the Castle

The Beginning
In the 14th and 15th centuries, on the site of the current château, there stood a small fortified castle with three watchtowers. It was destroyed during a war. Today, only the detached tower of the castle remains.
In the 16th century, Francis I had a château built to serve as a hunting lodge. The estate then covered 900 hectares.
When Francis I built the Château de Chambord, he exchanged the castle and the lands of Nieuil for an enclave belonging to the Chambord estate.
Several families succeeded one another, and in 1937 the château was converted into a hotel-restaurant under the ownership of Marguerite and Jean-Michel Bodineau.
The château and its grounds have been owned by Optical Center since 2022.
This optics and hearing company renovated the estate so that everyone could see beauty and hear goodness.
